Description
Up for bidding is a so-called dollar or commemorative medal from the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition held in San Francisco.
Description
: It is made from gilt brass, and measures approximately 33mm in diameter. It corresponds with Hibler-Kappen listing HK-481.
Note the details - there are four Treasure Island side die varieties known, with several differences (for example, in the design of the water, sun, shore buildings, etc.). This one is the "dots" variety, SH 23-1.1 GP, as listed in
the new
So-Called Dollars of the Pacific Coast Expositions
by Shevlin and Hyder.
It has been graded at
MS66
and encapsulated by NGC. According to NGC's Coin Census, there are only 6 finer (with no distinction made in the Census between the four varieties, out of 212 graded).
Condition
: Lots of luster, a slight orange-golden tone to the surface. Please examine the photographs for further details and qualities.
