    Description

    Important Finest Known Example!
    1947 C. Smith So-Called Half Dollar Medal
    Pony Express Diamond Jubilee
NGC MS68 DPL (Deep Mirror Prooflike)
The die fields had been polished down to black chrome pools, and the devices are billowing with heavy, white Cameo contrast. Just a faint tint of even, soft golden patina over amazingly clean, ultra-gem surfaces. A completely under-rated issue, especially in this grade. There are two coin in MS68DPL with none finer. MS68s, in general, are rare for this series.
The Pony Express So-Called Half Dollar is dated 1935, but is actually one of eight medals commissioned by Charles Smith in 1947. Each commemorated an important American theme, and were struck by the company of Whitehead & Hoag.
