Description: This is an attractive and decorative example of a fetish jar with a dynamic presence, a beautiful form, and expert construction. Anthropologist Ruth Kirk stated that fetish jars have been used in this century to house ceremonially used fetishes in Kivas. Ceremonial jars have a feeding hole, which allows cornmeal to be placed in the jar to feed the fetishes. The fetishes on this jar are carved from antlers and may represent fish. Beads mostly of shell and turquoise are attached to the jar.
